Celtics Make BIG moves

The Boston Celtics former starting five will never be known as "unsuccessfull". their former starting five consisting of Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo and Kenrick Perkins made it to two NBA finals appearences   and won one out of those two times. Coach Doc Rivers has said before that when this starting five were all healthy they never lost a playoff series (this was true as the only time this team lost was when Kevin Garnett was out in 2009 and Kendrick Perkins missed game 7 of the finals in 2010). The celtics are off to a great start this season boasting a 43-15 record which is the best in the East. At the All-star break they were once again looking like the favorite to represent the Eastern conference in the 2011 NBA finals. All of these reasons added to the shocker of trading starting center Kendrick Perkins. Perkins was sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder along with Nate Robinson (who I was not sad to see leave) for small forward Jeff Green and center Nenad Kristec. The trade sent shockwaves throughout the NBA as many asked why the Celtics would trade away their established big man. The team also moved rookie Luke Harangody, injury proned Marquis Daniels, and center Semih Erden. All this action allowed  the Celtics to open up 3 spots on their 15 man roster. Although it was sad to see Perkins leave, I understand the fact that the Celtics needed more scoring threats as their bench has struggled this year. Perkins is also one of the best defensive centers in the NBA, but one of the worst offensively. all of these reasons contributed to all of the last minute action the Celtics roster saw. Since having their two new additions, the Celtics have won back to back games. They also made a big move today signing versatile power Forward Troy Murphy. So now the Celtics are stacked in the front court positions with 6 players who are above 6'10. They also got much needed help at the small forward position in signing Jeff Green. All of this recent action has gotten celtics fans such as myself very excited as the playoffs draw further and further. Look for Boston to make some more moves this weekend. I've been hearing rumors that they are looking to sign small forward Corey Brwer, which is something that would make General manager Danny Ainge look like a genius. Who knows, there could be a chance that we might see Antoine Walker back in Green as he continues his quest for a come back. say what you want about all of the Celtics recent moves, but nobody can doubt that it is a very exciting time to be a Celtics fan.
